Since it is exactly one month away, the countdown until my thirty-third birthday has officially begun. I have never understood why some people don’t like to think about their birthday, but it is a day that I always looked forward to arriving. Although I may only see some of them one or twice a year, I know that I can always count on seeing my friends and family when my birthday comes around. I am not one of those people who worries about having an over the top birthday party, but I do enjoy going out with my friends and family and having a really fun evening together.

In addition to having my birthday party with my friends and family, I decided that I wanted to do something extra this year. I haven’t done this before, but this year I will also be going on a birthday trip to New Jersey. This will be my third time to visit New Jersey, but even though I have already been there twice, I know that I will get a chance to have some new experiences. Since it is always more fun to travel with someone instead of alone, I am taking my Dad along with me on this trip. While I was ready to shell out a fair amount of money for the trip expenses, I spent much less than I initially expected. Although 2008 was really hard on me (as it may have been for you), I told myself this year wasn’t going to go the same way. In case you aren’t exactly sure what the typical Spring Break trip involves, it’s basically spending four to seven days partying non-stop on a beach. While it sounds like fun (and speaking from personal experience, it is a lot of fun), after a couple of years, it gets a little old.

Although several of my friends thought I was joking when I said that I wanted a more laid back Spring Break trip this year, it was something that I felt strongly about. I am starting to get older (at least older in the sense of I am no longer a teenager), and the typical Spring Break trip just didn’t appeal to me this year.

Therefore, instead of a week of booze and the beach, I decided that I am going to visit New Jersey. I have several family members who live in New Jersey, so I think it will be a fun but relaxed way to spend my Spring Break, in contrast to the non-stop partying of previous years. You can call me boring, but I have a really good feeling that I’m truly going to enjoy myself during this Spring Break.

During the week, my social life is pretty limited. While some people have this problem because they don’t have many friends, that is definitely not the cause of my situation. Instead, the reason I don’t spend much time with my friends during the week is because I am so busy at work. Since I just graduated from college a couple of years ago, I am still working long and hard every week to advance my career and continue to increase my level of success. I’m not going to lie and say that it has been easy, but I feel like everything I have done is going to pay off quite well in the end.

Even though I’m not able to do much between Sunday night and Thursday night, I still am able to enjoy Friday night and all of Saturday to the fullest. Because I like to get away on the weekends (so I can relax and not think about work), I go to New Jersey on the weekends quite regularly. Many of my friends like to do the same thing, so we usually all pile into one car and head up there to make the most of our weekends!

Last weekend, I got a rental car and drove from my home up to New Jersey. Because I live fairly close to New Jersey, my drive only took four hours (that may seem like a long drive, but you have to take into account the fact that I was driving on Friday, so the traffic was a lot heavier than it is during a normal weekday). The reason that I took a trip up there was to spend the weekend with some of my family members. I have an uncle, aunt and cousin that live together in New Jersey, and from the day I was born, they have played a big role in my life.

I think the reason that they still play a big role in my life is because the four of us always have such a good time when we’re together. For example, once I got there Friday night, we all went out to dinner together, and we spent the entire meal making jokes and laughing non-stop. Although I love them all just like I love every member of my family, we connect on an even deeper level (like I connect with all of my good friends).

Even though I have only been with my girlfriend for the last six months, I have known her for over a year and a half. For over a year, we were just really good friends with each other, but as we grew closer as friends, we both realized that it made more sense for us to be in a committed relationship. I was nervous that making the jump to an actual relationship would throw things off between us, but I’m happy to say that the last six months with her have been quite enjoyable.

Although we both now live in the Midwest, my girlfriend is originally from New Jersey. Her immediate family also lives in the Midwest, but she still has some extended family members who live in New Jersey. When she asked if I wanted to go to New Jersey with her to visit her family, I agreed, so we ended up taking a six day trip up there.

I was obviously a little nervous about meeting all of her family members, but everyone was really nice to me. I think they could all see that I genuinely care about her, so everyone in her family treated me quite well.
